COVID 19 Update – We are open for business!

We hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy during this COVID 19 Pandemic.  This email is to inform everyone that we are currently open for business, as we are an essential service (more details about this below), but we are operating on a limited basis.  Judy and Imran are back in the office during regular business hours; however, our office still remains closed to the public.  Our crews are currently out in the field servicing pools, so if you do require service, please give us a call or send us an email and we would be more than happy to help, provided that your request falls under the scope of work that we are able to offer. 

To provide further details on why we qualify as an essential business, please continue reading below. 

Essential Business Classification

Based on our interpretation of the revised List of Essential Businesses released by the Provincial Government on April 3rd, 2020, we strongly believe that Pool & Spa Operators are an Essential Business and play a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of swimming pools and spas.  This interpretation is also shared by the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada, which is a national, not for profit association of companies in the Pool & Spa industry as well as the Governments of Quebec, Manitoba & Saskatchewan who have classified Pool & Spa Operators as essential businesses in those Provinces.  Representatives from our Council have been in contact with a Consumer Protection Ontario Government employee on March 31^st who agreed that Pool & Spa Operators can remain open as long as we have all of the proper precautions for the health and safety of employees and the public at the forefront. 

Without the proper safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of a swimming pool (which includes circulation and treatment of water), these bodies of water can become susceptible to bacteria, such as Pseudomonas, Cryptosporidium, Shigella, etc.  It can also create a breeding ground for mosquitoes, other pests and the diseases (West Nile Virus) they may carry, which presents a risk not only to bathers but to the entire community at large.  As families across the country are being asked to eliminate outside contact and shelter at home and with gyms and other public facilities now closed, the backyard pool, spa or hot tub provides an important way for families to focus on their health and well-being.  As the weather warms, these pools and hot tubs need to be properly maintained to ensure proper sanitation measures are taking place.

The specific categories from the list of essential businesses that we strongly believe we fall under are Category 20 and Category 30:

Maintenance

• Maintenance, repair and property management services strictly necessary to manage and maintain the safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential properties and buildings.

30. Residential construction projects where,

• the project involves renovations to residential properties and construction work was started before April 4, 2020.

To protect our staff as well as to stop the spread of the COVID 19 virus, we have implemented the following safeguards:

• All of our vans are equipped with hand sanitizers & soap so that our technicians can sanitize their hands throughout the day
• Anti-bacterial cleaning solution has also been provided to each crew so that tools and frequently touched items in their service vehicles can be disinfected daily. 
• Our crews have been instructed to wipe down key touch points in a customer’s yard such as door handles, locks, etc.
• To maintain social distancing whilst working
• Customers have been asked to stay indoors while we are working in their yard and if they do need to come out, to practice social distancing
• Our head office is closed to the public and staff are only allowed in at set times to avoid large crowds
