We love summer just as much as you do, but it’s almost time to say goodbye to the sunny days. The weather has been fantastic, and we hope you’ve enjoyed every moment in your pool this season.
At Bremner Pools, our all-in-one service makes pool closing a breeze. But before we start winterizing your pool, you should know a few things about keeping your water balanced. Testing your water before we arrive helps us get everything just right.
Quick Tips for Water Testing:
• Check Your Water Chemistry. This includes pH, Alkalinity, Chlorine, Stabilizer, and Calcium. Make sure it’s in the right range. It’s important to maintain perfect water chemistry throughout the season, not only at pool closing time.
• Watch for Water Loss: Are you losing more than 1/4” of water a day? Something might be up.
Winter Pool Chemistry Made Simple
Keeping your pool’s chemistry balanced over the winter is super important. If your water isn’t balanced, it can harm your pool’s liner, fiberglass, paint, or concrete. It’s best to close your pool with the right chemistry, but remember, things can change if there are leaks or water loss during the winter.
Why You Should Prevent Water Loss:
• Avoid Structural Damage: Water in the pool will help protect your vinyl liner or concrete or fiberglass pool structure and help keep the pool’s structure intact.
• Keep Your Pool in Place: An empty pool can pop out of the ground if there’s enough groundwater surrounding it. A concrete pool or a fiberglass pool shell can pop out of the ground. If a Vinyl pool leaks over the winter, it can destroy the liner, cause the walls to buckle in and can also destroy the pool floor.
Worried about leaks? The old “bucket test” is a simple way to check:
• Place a bucket on your pool steps and fill it to the pool’s water level.
• Check after 24 hours. If the pool water level is lower than the bucket, you might have a leak.
